Art Memories

For my birthday my friend and I decided to have a joint party! I cut these shapes out of posterboard and we painted them together. They turned out to be such a cute backdrop that I saved them and have them as a keepsake in my bedroom.

I am a really big fan of aesthetics and cartoon art. Some of my favorites include Vewn, who creates animations with deep and dark meanings. I love the juxtaposition of bright colors, childlike characters, with more adult themes. You can check out her animations here! Some other artists I love I follow on Instagram. It’s always a fun surprise getting beautiful art on your timeline, and they always get me inspired.

I’ve recently delved into making GIFs for people, even selling some! You can see my logo is a GIF I created!

Above you can see some of my art, as well as around this website! I also like to create shirt designs, I make them for Girls’ Engineering Change Club. :)

Since I was little, I have always been into working with my hands. And as a younger child that led to me drawing. I remember sitting on the floor of my parent’s apartment, drawing the same mermaid over and over again, trying to perfect her hands. I also remember not having a desk to draw on, so I had to draw on the carpet. To my childhood frustration, I always punctured my paper with the pencil lead.

In middle school the most of the art opportunities I had were art club. While there were many fun opportunities, it really wasn’t much of an artistic challenge. In 8th grade, we got a new art teacher, and that changed art for me! The new art teacher made sure there were more challenging opportunities available for artists, and for my last year of middle school that meant stage crew! Only 10 people were picked based on their art portfolios and we immediately got to work. Our task was to create to play backdrops for the the school’s play Lion King. There was a desert sunset and a jungle scene. It was so much fun working on a large canvas and collaborating with everyone. It taught me to value the big picture over smaller details. The second play we worked on was Murder Mystery. This production had us make one haunted mansion backdrop, an entryway, and numerous props. We came to school early to paint. I remember on picture day I got green paint on my shirt! We even came on teacher workdays and some holidays. I have a fond memory of us painting for the whole day on Halloween. I was so excited that I made a Halloween themed cake for all the members. At the end of the year, I won an award for Most Valuable Artist! My art teacher encouraged me to continue to think out of the box when it comes to creating my art. That included fingerpainting leaves to create depth, playing around with shadows to change the mood, and keeping a consistent themes across the play.

Throughout high school, my art has evolved from more realistic drawings to art that is more stylistic. Stylistic with simpler designs, brighter colors, and more childlike strokes. I was really influenced by artists that value composition, details, and symbols to portray in depth themes. Below is a list of my some artists I admire:

Naeemeh Naeemaei, marilyneemery, Jean Giraud, Ida Rentoul Outhwaite, Jamie Green, Sha'an d'Anthes
