Chocolate Cake

IMG_4508.jpg

Made this cake a while ago for my neighbors who love chocolate!

It is a chocolate cake with cherry compote and chocolate frosting. Sort of like a subdued black forest cake.

Considering how much I bake, you would think I have all the supplies I would need to make pretty looking desserts. On the contrary I am cheap when it comes to those things, and I have numerous hacks to get by. For instance, ziploc bags with small cuts on the corner is a makeshift pastry bag. Or use a large pan and cut circles out of the cakes using bowls/plates when you don’t have cake pans. Dye white chocolate to replace candy melts. Cake flour is just all purpose flour with cornstarch.

However, recently I bought pastry bags, piping tips, a cake turntable, and cake scrapers! So look out for the next blog post, my cakes are going to have much cleaner decorations!
